The "Arrow Kasuri" Sashiko series by Studio D'Artisan celebrates the rich heritage of Japanese indigo-dyed textiles and sashiko stitching. Drawing from the traditional "Yagasuri" (Arrow Kasuri) motif, once featured in Samurai kimonos, this collection blends the cultural essence of Japanese kimonos with Western workwear, offering a rustic, timeless appeal.
Kasuri, similar to Ikat dyeing, is a technique that creates intricate patterns with dyed fibers. Originating during the Ryukyu Kingdom era (1200 AD), it remains a revered craft in Japan, produced by skilled artisans for centuries.
Woven on vintage looms in Okayama, the fabric features a traditional "Sashi-ori" double-face weave. Post-wash, it develops a textured, three-dimensional appearance, reminiscent of its sashiko roots—historically used for both mending and embellishing garments.
