The Dehen 1920 Flight Vest takes inspiration from vintage military flight and utility garments, stripping the concept back into a clean, highly wearable layering piece. Rather than loading the vest with the numerous pockets associated with traditional pilot vests, Dehen keeps the design understated and lets the Japanese Sashi-Ori fabric and Portland-made construction do most of the work.

The exterior is cut from a substantial 12oz Japanese Sashi-Ori fabric woven from 100% cotton. The densely woven cloth has a pronounced three-dimensional surface, giving the vest plenty of texture and visual depth while remaining comfortable enough for year-round layering.

For the Indigo colourway, Dehen over-dyes the Sashi-Ori fabric to create a deep, saturated blue that emphasizes the raised texture of the weave. The indigo is designed to crock and bleed when new before gradually fading with wear, creating lighter tones and variation across the textured surface. Over time, each vest will develop a more nuanced appearance unique to how it is worn.

Dehen finishes the neckline with a 1x1 knit collar and dark navy trim made from 100% worsted wool, knitted in-house at the brand’s Portland factory. The tonal combination of deep indigo cotton and navy wool keeps the vest understated while adding another layer of texture around the collar.

A heavy-duty two-way #10 aluminum zipper anchors the front, while single welt hand pockets keep the exterior clean. Inside, the vest is finished with a navy lining and an additional welt pocket secured by a snap closure.

Cut and sewn in Portland, Oregon, the Flight Vest combines Japanese textile production with Dehen’s long tradition of American manufacturing. Substantial enough for the shoulder seasons but simple enough to layer throughout the year, it is a versatile piece that should only become better as the indigo fades and the fabric develops character.
