The Dehen 1920 N-1 Deck Jacket takes one of the most enduring pieces of American military outerwear and rebuilds it with the substantial materials and old-school manufacturing that define the Portland brand. Inspired by the Naval N-1 jackets developed during WWII, Dehen’s interpretation retains the functional character of the original while elevating the construction with a heavyweight waxed canvas shell and genuine mouton lining.
The exterior is cut from 10.10oz waxed cotton canvas, giving the jacket a dense, structured feel while providing added protection against wind and wet weather. Unlike lighter deck jacket reproductions, Dehen pairs the shell with genuine mouton throughout the interior and collar. The thick natural sheep lining provides exceptional insulation while giving the jacket a substantial feel that makes it particularly well suited to colder weather.
A six-button front placket keeps the military-inspired exterior clean while concealing a heavy-duty #10 brass zipper underneath. The zipper is finished with a canvas pull, a detail repeated on the zippered interior chest pocket. Two front welt pockets provide everyday storage without interrupting the simple exterior.
Dehen also produces the 100% wool knit cuffs in its own Portland factory. Hidden inside the sleeves, they help seal out cold air while preserving the clean appearance of the jacket. Additional details include underarm eyelets for ventilation, zigzag stitching beneath the collar, and a neck closure that allows the mouton collar to be secured when additional warmth is needed.
Finished entirely in black, including the waxed canvas exterior and mouton lining, this version gives the traditional N-1 a more understated appearance while retaining its unmistakably rugged construction. Made in Dehen’s Portland, Oregon factory, it is a genuinely substantial winter jacket designed with the materials and construction to be worn for decades.
