TCB - 20's 12.5oz Regular Straight Selvedge Jeans

The TCB 20’s Jeans are a detailed reproduction of one of the most interesting transitional periods in denim history. Based on an original pair of 1922 jeans in TCB’s vintage archive, the design comes from an era when suspenders and cinch backs were still commonly used to adjust the waist, but belt loops were beginning to appear. The result is a jean loaded with early workwear details while retaining an easy, highly wearable regular straight silhouette.

TCB developed an exclusive 12.5oz selvedge denim specifically for the 20’s series, using 100% Memphis cotton with No. 8 yarn for both the warp and weft. The denim has a distinctly deep, blue-toned indigo shade inspired by fabrics from the period, along with the texture and irregularity TCB looks for when recreating vintage denim. Despite its relatively light 12.5oz weight, the fabric begins with enough crispness and structure to develop impressive creasing, vertical character, and contrast as it is worn and washed.

One of the most distinctive details is the wide white selvedge ID. Rather than using the familiar red-line selvedge associated with later denim, TCB recreated the wider plain white selvedge found on jeans from the 1920s. The belt loops are even made from a different denim, reproducing the way loops were sometimes added to existing jeans as demand for belts increased during this transitional period.

Finished with suspender buttons, a SOLIDE two-prong cinch back, exposed rivets, and buttons recreated from TCB’s original vintage example, the 20’s Jeans offer an unusually detailed look at the earliest evolution of the modern five-pocket jean. Designed and made entirely by TCB in Kojima, Japan.
