The Imogene + Willie Willie Indigo Rigid JP pairs the brand’s classic high rise straight fit with a substantial 14oz Japanese selvedge denim woven by Nihon Menpu in Okayama, Japan.
Founded in 1917, Nihon Menpu has a long history of textile production in Okayama, one of Japan’s most important denim producing regions. For the Willie Indigo Rigid JP, Imogene + Willie uses a 100% cotton selvedge denim with a deep indigo colour and the firm, structured hand you would expect from a new pair of rigid jeans.
Unlike a pre-washed denim, the rigid fabric begins crisp and relatively uniform. Regular wear gradually softens the denim and allows it to conform to the wearer, while creases and areas of repeated friction begin to create increasingly individual fading. The result is a pair of jeans designed to look considerably different after months and years of wear than it does on day one.
The Willie is Imogene + Willie’s high rise straight fit. It sits above the hips and runs straight through the thigh and knee, giving it a clean, traditional silhouette with comfortable room through the leg without becoming overly wide.
Construction remains straightforward with a classic five pocket layout and button fly. Like Imogene + Willie’s other jeans, the focus is kept on the fabric, fit, and the way the denim develops through regular use.
The Japanese denim is brought to the USA where the jeans are patterned, cut, and sewn. It is a simple combination that gets the important things right: a versatile straight fit, quality Japanese selvedge denim, and American jean construction.
