Big John - Yoshi Denim Wild Duck 13.5oz Wide Straight Jeans [M1011RC-001]

The Yoshi Denim Wild Duck Jeans are one of Big John’s more unusual fabric projects, combining Japanese denim production with a fibre sourced directly from the landscape surrounding Kojima.

Each year, reeds known as Yoshi are harvested from Lake Kojima as part of maintaining the local environment. Rather than allowing the cut reeds to be discarded, Big John developed a way to process them into a strong plant based fibre suitable for denim production. The resulting Yoshi Denim is woven from 94% cotton and 6% reed fibre, giving the M1011RC a direct connection to the region where Big John has been producing jeans for generations.

The 13.5oz denim is finished with a green selvedge ID, chosen specifically to represent the environmental concept behind the Yoshi Denim project. Green bartacks and buttonhole stitching carry that detail throughout the jeans, while a special Wild Duck patch distinguishes the model from Big John’s standard denim lineup.

The M1011RC uses a relaxed wide straight silhouette with a deep rise and plenty of room through the seat, thigh and leg. It is a genuinely roomy cut rather than an exaggerated taper, allowing the wider proportions to fall naturally from the top block through the hem.

Finished with a traditional button fly and one wash treatment, these are ready to wear without dealing with the initial shrinkage of an unwashed pair.

Fabric & Care: The Yoshi Denim combines cotton with 6% reed fibre recovered from reeds harvested around Lake Kojima. This pair has been one washed. Big John notes that additional shrinkage, fading and colour transfer can still occur with washing and wear. Avoid tumble drying and chlorine bleach.

Fit: Relaxed wide straight with a deep rise and generous proportions through the leg. This is one of Big John’s roomier silhouettes, with very little narrowing from the thigh through the hem.
