The Dehen 1920 Flight Vest takes inspiration from vintage military flight and utility garments, stripping the concept back into a clean, highly wearable layering piece. Rather than loading the vest with the numerous pockets associated with traditional pilot vests, Dehen keeps the design understated and lets the Japanese Sashi-Ori fabric and Portland-made construction do most of the work.

The exterior is cut from a substantial 12oz Japanese Sashi-Ori fabric woven from 100% cotton. Sashi-Ori is a densely woven Japanese textile characterized by its pronounced three-dimensional texture, drawing visual inspiration from the stitched surfaces associated with traditional sashiko. The result is a rugged cloth with plenty of surface character while remaining comfortable enough for year-round layering.

In the Natural colourway, the fabric takes on a warm, undyed-looking appearance that puts the irregular woven texture front and centre. The understated colour makes the vest particularly easy to layer over denim, chambray, tees, and knitwear, while allowing the fabric to pick up increasingly individual character through regular wear.

Dehen finishes the neckline with a 1x1 knit collar and dark tan trim made from 100% worsted wool, knitted in-house at the brand’s Portland factory. The contrast between the textured Japanese cotton body and tightly knitted wool collar adds a subtle point of distinction without taking away from the straightforward military-inspired design.

A heavy-duty two-way #10 brass zipper anchors the front, while single welt hand pockets keep the exterior clean. Inside, the vest is fully finished with a cream lining and an additional welt pocket secured by a snap closure.

Cut and sewn in Portland, Oregon, the Flight Vest combines Japanese textile development with Dehen’s century-long tradition of American manufacturing. Substantial enough for the shoulder seasons but simple enough to layer throughout the year, it is an easy piece where the quality of the materials becomes the main focus.
