Dehen 1920’s Wool Knit Watch Cap takes one of the simplest pieces of cold weather gear and gives it the same attention to yarn, knitting and construction found throughout the brand’s heavier knitwear. The Loden / Navy Mix combines two understated colours into a richly textured knit that works easily alongside denim, canvas and heavier winter outerwear.

The cap is knitted from 100% U.S. spun worsted wool. Worsted yarn uses longer wool fibres that are combed before spinning, creating a smoother and more consistent yarn with less of the loose, fuzzy surface associated with many traditional wool knits. The result is a substantial cap that retains the natural warmth and durability of wool while maintaining a cleaner appearance.

Dehen uses a 6 gauge knit and an alternative stitch from the one used for its sweaters. The brand specifically chose this construction to give the Watch Cap a softer and more forgiving hand, making it comfortable enough for regular wear while still retaining the density and structure expected from Dehen’s knitwear.

The design itself draws from traditional naval watch caps. The name originated with sailors who wore knitted caps to stay warm while standing watch, a connection that has particular significance for Dehen. Founder William Dehen served in the U.S. Navy, and the brand sees the Watch Cap as a fitting addition to a collection built around American athletic, collegiate and workwear traditions.

Construction is finished with a six seam top, a subtle novelty accent stitch around the edge and Dehen’s understated black and gold label. There is very little unnecessary decoration, allowing the wool, mixed Loden and Navy colouring and knit construction to carry the piece.
