Originally introduced as Imogene + Willie’s answer to a modern carpenter jean, the Augusta quickly evolved into something more refined. The result is a high rise, straight leg jean that retains the practical proportions of its workwear beginnings while settling into a clean, versatile silhouette.
This version is part of Imogene + Willie’s ongoing Cotton Project and is built from a substantial 15oz, 100% cotton natural indigo denim produced by Mount Vernon Mills. The cotton is regeneratively farmed, ginned and spun in the USA before being dyed with natural indigo grown in the American Southeast by Stony Creek Colors.
The natural indigo is particularly important here. Stony Creek Colors grows plant based indigo using regenerative farming practices, giving Imogene + Willie a domestically sourced alternative to conventional synthetic indigo. It creates a distinctive blue that connects the Augusta back to some of the earliest traditions of indigo dyed workwear.
The Augusta has a high rise with a straight leg and enough room through the top block to keep the silhouette comfortable without becoming overly loose, with a zipper fly keeps the front clean and easy to wear.
From the cotton and natural indigo through to the finished garment, the Augusta has a distinctly American production story. The jeans are patterned, cut and sewn in the USA.
