Imogene + Willie - Bedford Work Jacket

Imogene + Willie’s Bedford Work Jacket takes its shape from classic American workwear, but the real story is the fabric. The jacket is built from a substantial 13oz Japanese Bedford cord, a densely woven cotton fabric with a raised longitudinal texture that gives it more dimension than a conventional canvas or twill work jacket.

The colour is created through a two-stage process. The fabric is first dyed green before receiving a final indigo dip, leaving the darker blue sitting over the green underneath. As the jacket is worn, friction around the seams, cuffs, elbows and pocket edges will gradually remove the surface indigo and allow more of the underlying green to appear, creating a much more layered ageing process than a standard solid-dyed jacket.

After the jacket is cut and sewn, Imogene + Willie gives the finished garment a quick wash and light abrasion to begin that transformation from the start. The result is a jacket that already has some softness and variation when new, but is still designed to continue developing considerably with wear. A zippered chest pocket adds a functional detail while keeping the overall silhouette clean and workwear focused.

The vintage-inspired fit is straightforward and versatile, substantial enough to wear as an outer layer over a T-shirt or lighter shirt while still working underneath heavier coats in colder weather. Fabric & Care: Made from 13oz 100% Japanese cotton Bedford cord. The fabric is dyed green before receiving an indigo dip, allowing the surface colour to gradually wear away and reveal more of the green underneath. Expect the strongest ageing around the cuffs, elbows, seams, pocket edges and other high-contact areas. Wash cold with similar dark colours and hang dry. Indigo transfer may occur, particularly while the jacket is new.
