Inception - UK Saddle Basket Leather Brass Shackle Key Holder Black [IPSK-04]

Inception brings together traditional British leather and Japanese craftsmanship, creating small leather goods designed around materials that develop more character the longer they are used. The IPSK-04 pairs hand worked UK saddle leather with substantial brass hardware in a compact everyday key holder.

The black leather comes from J&FJ Baker, one of Britain’s oldest remaining traditional tanneries and a specialist in saddle leather originally developed for equestrian use. Using a slow, traditional tanning process, wax is worked deep into the fibres of the leather, producing a dense material with exceptional strength and natural water resistance.

For the IPSK-04, the saddle leather is finished with a basket pattern applied by hand stamping. The tooling gives the small leather section considerable texture while allowing the natural variations of the hide to remain visible. With regular use, the black leather will gradually develop additional depth and lustre as the surface is handled and worn.

The hardware is built around Inception’s original brass shackle, produced using the lost wax casting process. This more involved casting technique allows for greater dimensional accuracy and gives the hardware a substantial, sculpted appearance. The brass is left exposed so it can darken and develop its own patina alongside the leather.

A threaded pin makes the shackle easy to open and attach to a belt loop, bag handle or other piece of gear. The pin remains connected to the body with a small retaining chain, helping prevent it from being misplaced when the shackle is open. Two key rings are included for organizing keys and other small accessories.

The IPSK-04 measures approximately 11cm in overall length and is made in Japan.

Leather & Aging: The UK saddle leather is deeply impregnated with wax during production, giving it considerable density, strength and water resistance. With regular use, the black leather will develop additional lustre and character. The brass hardware will also naturally darken and develop patina over time, allowing both materials to evolve together.
