Inception - UK Saddle Basket Leather Brass Shackle Key Holder Brown [IPSK-04]

Inception brings together traditional British leather and Japanese craftsmanship, creating small leather goods designed around materials that become better with use. The IPSK-04 pairs hand worked UK saddle leather with a substantial solid brass shackle in a compact everyday key holder.

The leather comes from J&FJ Baker, a historic British tannery known for producing traditional saddle leather using methods that have changed very little over generations. The leather is slowly tanned and heavily impregnated with wax, creating a dense material with considerable strength and natural water resistance.

For the IPSK-04, the brown saddle leather is finished with a basket pattern applied by hand stamping. The tooling gives the small leather section considerably more texture while allowing the natural characteristics of the hide to remain visible. As it is handled and worn, the brown leather will gradually deepen in colour and develop a richer lustre.

The shackle is produced from solid brass using the lost wax casting process. This more involved casting technique allows Inception to create its original shackle design with greater dimensional accuracy. Unlike the silver plated IPSK-03, the IPSK-04 leaves the brass exposed, allowing the hardware to darken and develop its own patina alongside the leather.

A threaded pin makes the shackle easy to open and attach to a belt loop or bag handle. The pin remains connected to the body with a small retaining chain, helping prevent it from being misplaced when the shackle is open. Two key rings are included for organizing keys and other small accessories.

The IPSK-04 measures approximately 11cm in overall length and is made in Japan.

Leather & Aging: The UK saddle leather is deeply impregnated with wax during production, giving it considerable density, strength and water resistance. With regular use, the brown leather will deepen in colour and develop additional lustre. The untreated brass hardware will also naturally darken and develop patina over time, allowing both materials to evolve together.
