Indigofera - Buck Tapered 18oz Shiroyama Rinse Twill Selvedge Jeans

The Buck is Indigofera’s higher rise tapered jean, combining a comfortable top block with a gradual taper through the leg. This version is built from one of the brand’s most recognizable heavyweight fabrics, 18oz Shiroyama Japanese selvedge denim, a dense and highly textured cloth designed to become increasingly personal with wear.

Shiroyama is a 100% cotton selvedge denim woven in Japan using a low tension construction. One of the defining characteristics is the difference between the yarns used across the face and reverse of the fabric. The white weft yarn is noticeably heavier than the indigo warp, and when combined with the slow, low tension weave it creates the rough, uneven surface that gives Shiroyama its distinctive character.

The indigo warp is rope dyed, allowing the dye to remain concentrated around the exterior of each yarn rather than completely penetrating to its core. As the denim is worn, friction gradually removes indigo from the surface and begins exposing the lighter cotton underneath. Combined with the irregular texture of the heavyweight cloth, this gives Shiroyama plenty of potential for pronounced creasing, high contrast fades and variation across the surface.

At 18oz, there is real weight and structure to the denim, but this version has already received a rinse before reaching you. That initial treatment settles the fabric and takes some of the edge off the stiffness while maintaining the deep indigo colour and substantial hand. The denim remains firm when new, but will gradually soften and conform to the wearer as the jeans break in.

Construction follows Indigofera’s traditional five pocket approach. Custom hardware and copper rivets reinforce the jeans at key stress points, while an offset rear belt loop and selvedge detailing at the watch pocket add some of the vintage influenced details found throughout the brand’s denim. A leather flasher finishes the waistband.

The Buck has a mid to high rise with comfortable room through the seat and thigh before tapering gradually toward the hem. It gives the heavyweight Shiroyama fabric enough room through the upper block without moving into the wider proportions of Indigofera’s Clint straight fit. The result is a substantial heavyweight jean with an easy top block and a cleaner leg below the knee.

Fabric & Shrinkage: Made from 18oz 100% cotton Japanese Shiroyama selvedge denim. The low tension weave and heavier weft yarn create the fabric’s irregular, textured surface. This version has already been rinsed, taking care of much of the initial movement in the denim and making the heavyweight cloth more approachable from the beginning. Minimal additional shrinkage should be expected with a cold wash and hang dry.
