Indigofera - Fargo 18oz Denim Trucker Jacket

The Fargo is one of Indigofera’s longstanding jacket designs, taking the familiar shape of a denim trucker and giving it a slightly more relaxed, workwear influenced approach. This version is cut from the brand’s signature 18oz Shiroyama selvedge denim, the same heavyweight Japanese fabric found in some of Indigofera’s most recognizable jeans.

Shiroyama is a 100% cotton selvedge denim woven in Japan with a deliberately irregular character. The fabric uses a heavier white weft yarn against the indigo warp and is woven slowly under low tension. That combination creates the rough, uneven surface that distinguishes Shiroyama from cleaner, more uniform denim. At 18oz, it is substantial enough to give the Fargo plenty of structure while still allowing the jacket to settle and conform to the wearer over time.

The denim uses a rope-dyed indigo warp and traditional 3x1 construction. Rope dyeing concentrates the indigo toward the outside of the yarn while leaving the cotton core lighter underneath. With repeated wear, friction gradually removes indigo from the surface, allowing the lighter cotton to emerge around seams, elbows, pocket edges and other high movement areas. Combined with Shiroyama’s irregular weave, there is plenty of potential here for pronounced texture and high contrast fading.

Indigofera gives the finished jacket a rinse before it reaches you. This takes care of much of the initial movement in the heavyweight denim and softens some of the rigidity without removing the deep indigo colour or substantial feel. It is still a serious piece of denim when new, but considerably easier to start wearing than an untreated 18oz jacket.

The Fargo Trucker uses two flap chest pockets along with two welted hand pockets, making it more practical as an everyday jacket than a traditional two-pocket denim design. Indigofera’s custom brass snap buttons run through the front placket and pockets, while copper rivets reinforce key stress points. Double needle stitching throughout adds to the workwear construction, and the body remains unlined so the Shiroyama denim itself remains the focus.

The fit is relaxed enough to accommodate a shirt, sweatshirt or flannel underneath without turning the Fargo into an oversized jacket. That extra room also works particularly well with a denim this heavy, allowing the fabric to move and break in naturally rather than feeling restrictive. Worn regularly, the combination of the rope-dyed indigo, low tension weave and heavyweight construction should make this one of those jackets that looks increasingly individual the longer you own it.

Fabric & Shrinkage: Made from 18oz 100% cotton Japanese Shiroyama selvedge denim. The low tension weave and heavier weft yarn give the fabric its characteristic rough, irregular surface. The jacket has already been rinsed to account for much of the initial shrinkage and to begin relaxing the heavyweight fabric. Minimal additional shrinkage should be expected when washed cold and hang dried.

Fit: The Fargo Trucker has a relaxed fit through the body, giving the heavyweight denim enough room to move while leaving space for layering underneath. It can be worn over a tee or shirt with room to spare, or over a sweatshirt or flannel in cooler weather. If you prefer a closer denim jacket fit, sizing down may be worth considering.
