The Indigofera Roan Cardigan takes the warmth of traditional wool outerwear and gives it the ease of a relaxed knit. Made from 100% Merino wool and finished in a deep Charcoal Brown, it uses Indigofera’s substantial Boiled Power Wool, creating a cardigan dense enough to work almost like a light jacket while remaining soft and comfortable enough for everyday layering.

The fabric goes through a boiling, or fulling, process that uses heat and agitation to tighten the knitted wool fibres. This compacts the Merino into a denser cloth with considerably more structure than a conventional cardigan knit. The surface becomes softly textured and highly insulating while still retaining the natural breathability and temperature regulation associated with Merino wool.

That dense construction gives the Roan a substantial hand without making it feel rigid. The boiled wool holds its shape well, but the knit still falls naturally through the body, giving the cardigan a relaxed silhouette that works equally well over a T-shirt, flannel or heavier shirt. Raglan sleeves add extra mobility through the shoulders and help keep the shape easy rather than overly tailored.

The standout detail is the set of decorative metal concho buttons running through the front. Inspired by traditional Southwestern silverwork, they bring a noticeably different character to an otherwise understated cardigan and contrast particularly well against the Charcoal Brown wool. Two large front patch pockets with ribbed openings add practical storage while reinforcing the relaxed workwear feel.

Ribbed cuffs and hem help maintain the shape of the heavier knit, while the V-neck keeps the overall design familiar and easy to layer. It is the kind of piece Indigofera does especially well, combining rugged materials and strong references without making the garment feel overly styled.

Indigofera’s Boiled Power Wool is compacted through a fulling process that tightens the fibres and creates a denser, warmer and more structured knit. Despite the substantial weight, Merino wool remains naturally breathable and comfortable across a wide range of temperatures.

Because boiled wool can react strongly to heat, agitation and improper washing, we recommend following the garment care label closely. Avoid tumble drying and high heat. When in doubt, professional wool cleaning is the safest option.

Fit

Relaxed fit with generous proportions through the body. The Roan is designed to sit comfortably over heavier layers rather than fitting like a slim dress cardigan. Raglan sleeves provide additional room through the shoulders and contribute to the easy, slightly oversized silhouette.
