Indigofera - Skull Bandana Blue

The Skull Bandana brings the artwork of Swedish artist and graphic designer Björn Atldax into one of Indigofera’s smallest and most wearable pieces. Atldax’s detailed skull imagery has become closely associated with Indigofera through the brand’s ongoing Skull Project and its series of large woven wool blankets. Here, elements of that artwork are condensed into a bandana that can be worn, carried or simply kept as a small textile piece.

The Blue version combines a rich blue ground with yellow detailing, giving the intricate illustration enough contrast for the smaller elements of Atldax’s work to remain visible. The design brings together skulls and other mythical imagery in the dense, slightly unconventional style that has defined his collaborations with Indigofera.

Rather than using a heavier conventional bandana cloth, Indigofera makes this version from 100% Japanese cotton voile. Voile is a particularly fine, lightweight woven cotton with a soft hand and slightly translucent quality. That lighter construction allows the detailed artwork and changes in colour to remain crisp while also making the bandana comfortable around the neck or folded into a pocket.

The artwork is screen printed onto the cotton, allowing the different colours and fine lines of the illustration to become part of the character of the fabric. At approximately 52 x 56 cm, it is large enough to work as a traditional neckerchief while remaining easy to fold and carry as an everyday accessory.

Like Indigofera’s collaborative blankets, the Skull Bandana sits somewhere between functional textile and artwork. It is an easy way to bring one of Atldax’s distinctive illustrations into everyday wear without losing the fabric and construction focus that runs throughout Indigofera’s collection.

Fabric & Care: Made from 100% Japanese cotton voile, a lightweight and finely woven cotton chosen to retain the detail of Atldax’s screen printed artwork. Wash gently in cold water when needed and avoid harsh detergents or bleach to help preserve the printed design.
