Indigofera - Smithson Canvas Fargo Quarter Jacket Ecru

The Fargo Quarter takes one of Indigofera’s staple outerwear shapes and cuts it down into a shorter, trucker inspired jacket. Fuller through the body than the brand’s Copeland, the Quarter version is designed to finish around the waistband, giving it a cropped proportion that works particularly well with higher rise denim and trousers.

The standout here is Indigofera’s 13oz Smithson Canvas. Developed specifically for the brand and produced in Japan, this is a tightly basket woven 100% cotton canvas rather than a conventional twill. The basket weave gives the cloth its dense, sturdy character, with a substantial hand when new and plenty of texture visible through the natural Ecru colour.

Smithson Canvas starts out stiff and structured, but that is a big part of its appeal. With regular wear, the cotton gradually softens and begins to drape more naturally around the body while retaining the durability expected from a tightly woven canvas. The Ecru colour leaves the character of the cotton exposed and will develop differently from dyed denim, gradually picking up wear, marks and subtle changes in tone that become increasingly personal over time. This version has also been soaked, taking some of the initial rigidity out of the cloth before wear.

The Fargo Quarter carries over the practical details of Indigofera’s longer Fargo jackets. A contrasting corduroy collar sits above the snap front, while two chest pockets are joined by two hand pockets at the waist. Indigofera’s custom brass snaps and branded copper rivets provide the hardware, with triple needle stitching reinforcing the workwear construction. Chambray is used to line the cuffs, neck and pocket flaps, adding a subtle layer of detail where the fabric is folded or opened.

The body remains unlined, making the Fargo Quarter easy to layer across more of the year. Its cropped torso is balanced by a fuller chest and roomy sleeves, leaving enough space for a shirt, flannel or knit underneath without losing the jacket’s clean shape. The combination of natural canvas, corduroy, brass and copper gives it plenty of character from the beginning, but this is a jacket that should become considerably better once the Smithson Canvas has had some time to break in.

Fabric & Care: Made from Indigofera’s custom 13oz Japanese Smithson Canvas, a tightly basket woven 100% cotton fabric with a firm, structured hand. This Ecru version has been soaked before reaching you, removing some of the initial rigidity while leaving plenty of breaking in to be done. The canvas will continue to soften and develop a more relaxed drape with wear. Wash cold when necessary and hang dry.

Fit: The Fargo Quarter is the cropped version of Indigofera’s Fargo jacket, designed to finish around the waistband for a classic trucker style proportion. It is cut relatively full and boxy through the chest with roomy sleeves, making it well suited to layering over shirts, flannels and lighter knits.
