Orgueil - Flip Up Sunglasses Brown [OR-7358B]

Orgueil’s Flip Up Sunglasses take a genuinely functional piece of vintage eyewear and give it the same considered Japanese construction found throughout the brand’s clothing. The OR-7358B combines a classic tortoiseshell style Brown frame with Brown lenses and a mechanical flip up front, allowing the entire lens section to be raised without removing the glasses.

Each pair is produced in Sabae, Fukui, the centre of Japan’s eyewear industry. Sabae has developed an international reputation for precision frame manufacturing, and Orgueil uses that specialist production rather than treating the sunglasses as simply another branded accessory. The result is a substantial Japanese made frame with the construction and finishing expected from dedicated eyewear manufacturing.

The frame is made from acetate and has a classic shape influenced by vintage Boston and Wellington eyewear. The Brown colour uses a mottled tortoiseshell appearance rather than a flat solid finish, giving the acetate considerably more depth when viewed up close. Paired with the Brown lenses, it gives this version a warmer appearance than the darker OR-7358D.

The defining feature is the flip up construction. Rather than using a second clip on lens, the front rim and lenses themselves are attached to a mechanical hinge. The entire lens assembly can be raised while the main frame and temples remain in place. It is a detail originally designed for practicality when moving between different viewing or lighting conditions, but it also gives the glasses an unmistakably vintage character.

Materials & Care: Constructed with an acetate frame and temples with plastic tinted lenses. Acetate is durable and develops a particularly rich depth of colour, but excessive heat can cause the material to distort. Clean the lenses using a proper eyewear cloth and store the sunglasses in their hard case when not in use. Avoid forcing the flip mechanism beyond its intended range of movement.
