RACAL - Boucle Wool 4 Panel Cap Black [RL-25-1409]

RACAL’s RL-25-1409 takes a simple four panel cap and gives it considerably more character through fabric and construction. Made from a compressed bouclé wool blend, the cap has a dense, textured surface that feels more substantial than a conventional cotton cap while maintaining the understated approach that defines much of RACAL’s headwear.

The fabric is a 65% wool and 35% nylon blend with the naturally looped and irregular texture associated with bouclé. RACAL compresses the material to create a denser, more stable cloth, helping the cap maintain its shape while retaining the soft visual texture of the wool. In Black, the irregular surface prevents the colour from appearing completely flat, giving the fabric subtle depth when viewed up close.

Rather than using a conventional six panel baseball cap construction, RACAL builds the crown from four larger panels. The reduced number of seams creates a cleaner shape through the front and gives the cap a distinctive silhouette that sits somewhere between classic sportswear and vintage military headwear.

That military influence becomes more apparent in the smaller construction details. Herringbone stitching follows the seams along the side panels, emphasizing the shape of the crown while adding a subtle decorative element. At the front, RACAL uses a small loop made from the same bouclé fabric rather than relying on prominent embroidery or exterior branding.

The result is intentionally restrained. There is enough texture and unusual construction to make the cap interesting, but nothing feels overly designed. The lack of a large logo also allows the fabric, stitching and four panel shape to remain the focus.

At the rear, an adjustable belt allows the circumference to be fine tuned for a comfortable fit. The simple adjustment system keeps the back of the cap as clean as the front while making the one size construction adaptable to different head sizes.

Black makes this the most versatile version of the RL-25-1409. The textured wool works naturally alongside indigo and black denim, leather, military fabrics, heavy knitwear and wool outerwear, while the understated colour keeps it easy to incorporate into an everyday wardrobe.

Like much of RACAL’s work, the appeal comes from taking a familiar piece of headwear and quietly changing the proportions, material and construction. The four panel crown, compressed bouclé wool and military influenced stitching give the RL-25-1409 its character without needing obvious branding.
