ROTOTO’s R1509 Hemp/Organic Cotton Pile Ankle Socks are built around a simple idea, combining two natural fibres with different strengths to make a comfortable warm-weather sock. Inspired by retro outdoor socks, they pair organic cotton with hemp to balance softness, breathability and moisture management in a substantial ankle-length construction.

The fabric brings organic cotton and hemp yarn together within the same knit. Organic cotton provides the soft feel and moisture absorption you want against the foot, while hemp contributes breathability and a naturally cool, dry character. Rather than using hemp simply for its texture, ROTOTO takes advantage of the functional qualities of both fibres.

The complete composition is 40% cotton, 35% hemp, 20% nylon, 4% polyester and 1% polyurethane. Cotton and hemp make up the majority of the sock, while the synthetic fibres provide additional durability, stretch and shape retention for regular wear.

Underfoot, ROTOTO uses a pile-knit construction to add cushioning through the sole. The looped interior creates a softer and more substantial surface beneath the foot while also working with the natural fibres to manage moisture. ROTOTO describes the construction around the idea of organic cotton absorbing perspiration while hemp helps release it.

The result is more substantial than a thin summer dress sock but still designed specifically with warmer conditions in mind. ROTOTO rates the R1509 at a moderate thickness, giving it enough cushioning and structure for everyday wear without losing the breathability that makes the hemp and organic cotton combination useful.

The ankle length and retro outdoor influence make these particularly easy to wear through spring and summer. They work naturally with sneakers, but ROTOTO also designed them with outdoor sandals in mind, where the texture of the knit and shorter height become part of the overall look.

They are equally useful outside of summer. The cushioned sole and moderate fabric weight make the R1509 comfortable through spring and autumn, especially with sneakers, clogs or casual leather footwear. The understated outdoor styling also pairs easily with denim, fatigues, work pants and shorts.

Like all ROTOTO socks, the R1509 is made in Japan with the knitting method selected around the specific yarns and intended function of the finished sock. It is a good example of what the brand does particularly well, taking something as straightforward as an everyday sock and putting considerably more thought into the yarn, construction and comfort than you might initially expect.

Avoid tumble drying, as excessive heat may cause shrinkage.
