ROTOTO’s R1255 Coarse Ribbed Oldschool Crew Socks take their inspiration from the striped tube socks associated with American West Coast culture in the late 1970s. Rather than simply reproducing the look, ROTOTO rebuilds the style using thick cotton blend yarn and specialized Japanese knitting machinery, creating a sock with considerably more texture and substance than a conventional athletic crew sock.

The body is knitted from a low-count cotton blend that gives the ribbing its pronounced, slightly rugged appearance and firm stretch. ROTOTO uses specialized machinery that has become increasingly uncommon, allowing the heavier yarn to be worked into the coarse rib structure that defines the R1255. Underfoot, a long pile knit creates a soft, springy layer of cushioning that makes the sock comfortable for extended periods of walking or standing.

The Chilli Red/Blue colourway leans fully into the R1255’s vintage athletic influence, combining a natural coloured body with bold red and blue striping through the upper portion of the sock. The combination works particularly well with denim, fatigues, shorts and sneakers, adding colour without moving away from the utilitarian sportswear roots of the design.

ROTOTO rates the R1255 at three out of five for thickness, giving it enough cushioning and structure to feel substantial while remaining practical with everyday footwear. It is a simple design on the surface, but the yarn, knitting machinery and long pile sole are what separate it from an ordinary striped crew sock.

Fabric & Care: Made from 73% cotton, 12% acrylic, 12% polyester and 3% polyurethane. The thick cotton blend creates the coarse ribbed texture while a long pile knit beneath the foot adds cushioning and a springy feel. ROTOTO notes that the surface can be sensitive to abrasion, particularly when worn with leather footwear. Wash gently and avoid tumble drying, as excessive heat may cause shrinkage.

Fit: Available at Private & Co. in Medium and Large. Medium fits approximately 25–27cm and Large fits approximately 27–29cm. The ribbed construction provides comfortable stretch through the foot and lower leg while maintaining the substantial character of the heavier yarn.
