The Samurai Jeans SM810DX-HC takes classic hickory stripe workwear and gives it the weight and character normally associated with Samurai’s heavyweight denim. Built from a substantial 17oz hickory denim developed alongside the brand’s Zero+ 17oz fabric, these pants retain the familiar striped appearance of traditional work clothing while adding a much heavier hand and considerably more aging potential.

Samurai’s Zero+ denim is known for its rough, irregular surface and pronounced wear patterns, and that same approach carries over into the hickory fabric used here. At 17oz, the cloth feels dense and firm when new, with a strongly textured surface that will gradually soften, crease and develop greater contrast as the pants are worn. This is hickory stripe treated less like a lightweight work cloth and more like a serious pair of heavyweight jeans.

The construction follows the same workwear direction. Strong triple-needle stitched seams run through the pants, providing both reinforcement and the bold stitchwork associated with vintage work garments. Black-painted iron tire buttons add another distinctly Samurai detail, while a sewn-on label finishes the waistband.

Rather than loading the design with traditional carpenter-pant details, Samurai has intentionally kept the SM810DX-HC relatively clean. The usual side utility pockets and hammer loop have been removed, allowing the heavy striped fabric and generous silhouette to do most of the work. The result still feels rooted in old workwear, but without becoming overly literal.

The fit is built around a deep rise that allows the pants to sit higher on the waist. From there, they remain roomy through the thigh and continue into a wide, full straight leg with a generously opened hem. The proportions work particularly well with the weight of the fabric, giving the 17oz denim enough room to drape rather than feeling restrictive.

Finished with a one-wash treatment, the SM810DX-HC arrives with the major initial shrinkage taken out while retaining the firm hand and long-term aging potential of the fabric. It is an unusual combination of heavyweight Japanese denim, hickory workwear and Samurai’s characteristically rugged construction.

Fabric & Care

100% cotton, 17oz Japanese hickory denim.

The fabric has a firm, substantial hand when new and is designed to soften and develop greater texture and contrast with regular wear. The hickory stripe will continue to gain character through creasing, abrasion and repeated washing.

The pants have received a one-wash treatment, so the majority of the initial shrinkage has already occurred. Some additional settling may still happen depending on water temperature and drying method.

Wash cold with similar colours and hang dry to minimize further shrinkage and preserve the fabric's character.

Fit

High rise with a wide, full straight leg.

The deep rise is designed to sit higher on the waist, with plenty of room through the thigh and a wide leg opening. Samurai's sizing can run smaller than typical North American sizing, so we recommend using the garment measurements rather than relying solely on the tagged size.
