Samurai Jeans - "Go Fly A Kite" Aged Cotton Inlay Loopwheel Tee Ivory [SJST26-105]

The Samurai Jeans “Go Fly A Kite” Tee in Ivory combines traditional Japanese imagery with one of Samurai’s most carefully developed loopwheel fabrics. Part of the brand’s 2026 collection, the SJST26-105 features artwork inspired by Japanese kites, or tako, which became a popular pastime during the Edo period and remain an important part of traditional Japanese culture.

Historically, Japanese kites were made from durable washi paper and often decorated with musha-e, illustrations depicting warriors. Kites were also regarded as auspicious objects, traditionally flown at seasonal occasions with hopes for children’s growth, career advancement, and good health. Samurai draws from this history for the graphic, giving the tee a distinctly Japanese character without losing the playful feel of the artwork.

The shirt itself is constructed from Samurai’s Aged Cotton Inlay Loopwheel fabric. Before the yarn is spun, compressed raw cotton is rested for approximately 30 to 50 days in a carefully controlled temperature and humidity environment. This process allows the cotton fibres to recover their natural fullness before being spun into yarn.

The resulting yarn is then taken to Wakayama, Japan, where the fabric is slowly knitted on vintage loopwheel machinery. While these machines can normally produce around one metre of fabric per hour, Samurai’s combination of high-gauge yarn and complex inlay knitting reduces production to only around 48 centimetres per hour.

The slow process creates a substantial fabric with an exceptionally soft hand while remaining less prone to stretching than conventional loopwheel jersey. Samurai also uses split side construction rather than a completely tubular body, allowing greater control over the finished silhouette.

Finished in a natural-looking Ivory colourway, the SJST26-105 highlights both the texture of the fabric and the traditional kite-inspired artwork. It is an easy everyday T-shirt with considerably more going on beneath the surface than its simple appearance initially suggests.
