The TCB Cat Worker Pants take their inspiration from 1930s Frisco work pants, a style of hard wearing trouser closely associated with dock workers, tradesmen and labourers on the American West Coast.

TCB developed the pants after studying an original pair of vintage Frisco pants from its own archive. One of the most recognizable details is the large, rounded front pocket opening known as a frogmouth pocket. Designed to make it easier for workers to reach tools and smaller items, the unusual shape gives the Cat Worker much of its character.

For the fabric, TCB developed an original 100% cotton left hand twill specifically for the project. Both the warp and weft use substantial straight 7-count yarns blended from high quality American cotton. The result is a firm, substantial workwear fabric with considerably more texture and character than a conventional modern chino.

TCB takes the finishing process a step further by running the fabric through an Italian Mario Crosta brushing machine. Rather than sanding or shaving the surface, the machine gently raises the cotton fibres, creating a softer, slightly fuzzy texture and giving the fabric a naturally worn-in appearance from the beginning.

The Beige colourway is sulphur dyed and designed to continue changing with wear. As the pants are worn and washed, the colour will gradually soften while seams and other high wear areas begin developing puckering and greater tonal variation.

The silhouette keeps the roomy proportions of the original work pants, with plenty of space through the seat and leg. Suspender buttons at the waistband allow them to be worn in a more traditional workwear style, and TCB even suggests sizing up for an intentionally loose fit when worn with suspenders.

Details are kept appropriately simple and functional, with iron buttons, a button fly and the distinctive oversized frogmouth front pockets.

From port workers to Cat Workers, this is TCB doing what they do best, taking an unusual piece of vintage American workwear, studying the details and rebuilding it in their own factory in Japan.

Fabric & Aging: The Beige cotton twill is sulphur dyed and intended to develop with wear. The colour will gradually soften and become less uniform, while seams and high wear areas develop greater contrast and puckering. The brushed surface gives the fabric a slightly broken-in texture even when new.
