The TCB Cat Worker Pants take their inspiration from 1930s Frisco work pants, a style closely associated with the dock workers, labourers and tradesmen of the American West Coast.
One of the defining details is the pair of large frogmouth pockets at the front. Their wide, rounded openings weren't simply a styling choice. They were designed to give workers quick access to tools and smaller items while on the job. TCB builds the rest of the pant around that same straightforward workwear mentality, including suspender buttons at the waistband that reference early examples of the style.
For the fabric, TCB developed an original cotton left hand twill based on a vintage pair of Frisco pants from their own archive. Both the warp and weft use straight 7-count yarn made from a blend of high quality American cotton, giving the fabric a substantial and sturdy feel.
The finishing process is particularly interesting. Rather than shaving the surface in the way many modern fabrics are finished, TCB uses an Italian Mario Crosta brushing machine to gently raise the fibres. This creates a soft, slightly fuzzy surface with some of the character of an older work pant from the first wear.
The Black colourway is sulphur dyed, which means it isn't intended to remain a perfectly uniform black forever. With wear and washing, the colour will gradually soften and fade, while seams and high wear areas develop puckering and greater contrast.
The silhouette is appropriately roomy, keeping the practical proportions of the original work pants rather than turning them into a modern slim chino. They can be worn conventionally at the waist or sized with additional room and paired with suspenders for a more traditional workwear fit.
And the name? Frisco pants led TCB back to their history as clothing for dock workers. In typical TCB fashion, Dock Worker eventually became Cat Worker.
