The TCB Cat Worker Pants take their inspiration from 1930s Frisco work pants, a style of hard wearing trouser associated with dock workers, tradesmen and labourers on the American West Coast.

TCB developed the Cat Worker after studying an original pair of vintage Frisco pants from its own archive. One of the most recognizable details is the large, rounded frogmouth pocket at the front. The wide opening was designed to give workers easy access to tools and smaller items while on the job, giving the pants a distinctive appearance that comes directly from their original function.

For the fabric, TCB developed an original 100% cotton left hand twill specifically for the project. Both the warp and weft use substantial straight 7-count yarns blended from high quality American cotton. The resulting fabric has a firm, substantial hand while remaining comfortable enough to wear from the beginning.

TCB finishes the fabric using an Italian Mario Crosta brushing machine. Rather than sanding or shaving the surface, the process gently raises the cotton fibres, creating a soft, slightly fuzzy texture and giving the pants some of the character of older workwear from the first wear.

The Olive colourway is sulphur dyed and designed to continue changing over time. Wear and washing will gradually soften the colour, while seams, pockets and other high wear areas develop greater contrast and puckering. Combined with the brushed surface, it should become considerably more textured and worn in with use.

The fit stays true to the practical proportions of the original Frisco pants, with a high rise and plenty of room through the seat and leg. Suspender buttons at the waistband allow them to be worn in a more traditional workwear style, and TCB even shows the Olive sized up and worn loose with suspenders.

Finished with a button fly, iron hardware and the distinctive oversized frogmouth pockets.

From Frisco dock workers to TCB’s Cat Workers, this is the kind of obscure piece of American workwear history that TCB does particularly well.

Fabric & Aging: The Olive left hand twill is sulphur dyed and washed before sale. The fabric is intended to change considerably with wear, gradually softening in colour while developing contrast, puckering and visible wear around seams and pockets. The Mario Crosta brushing process gives the surface a softer, slightly vintage texture from the beginning.
