The Flat Head’s FN-SCW-004L Print Western Shirt starts with a 1970s Western shirt as its reference, then reworks the proportions and fabric into something much more contemporary. Instead of a conventional flat shirting cloth, Flat Head uses a lightweight 6.7oz cotton with a raised, almost seersucker-like texture, giving the surface plenty of dimension before the pattern is even added.

The native-inspired design is created using discharge printing, where colour is removed from the dyed fabric rather than simply laying another layer of ink over the surface. Because the print settles into the uneven texture of the cloth, the pattern feels more integrated with the fabric and has considerably more depth than a conventional surface print. The cotton itself remains smooth and comfortable despite the pronounced texture.

One of the best details is the pattern matching through the front of the shirt. When buttoned, the print is carefully aligned across the two front panels so the larger design continues rather than being interrupted at the placket. That is especially difficult on a textured fabric that naturally shifts and ripples during cutting and sewing. Piping along the Western yokes, cuffs and curved chest pockets adds another layer of definition, with Flat Head noting that the curved pocket piping requires particularly specialized sewing.

The silhouette is also less restrictive than many traditional Western shirts. Flat Head shortens the body slightly while adding more width through the chest, creating a relaxed shape that works easily with denim without losing the pointed yokes and detailed construction that give the style its Western character. Major seams are finished using two-needle chain-stitched felled construction, and the shirt receives a One Wash finish before leaving the factory.

Fabric & Care: Made from 100% cotton in a lightweight 6.7oz fabric with an intentionally raised, three-dimensional texture. The native-inspired pattern is discharge printed into the cloth rather than simply printed over its surface. The shirt has been One Wash. Wash cold with similar colours and hang dry to help preserve the textured fabric and printed design. Avoid excessive heat and tumble drying.

Fit: Reworked from a 1970s Western shirt with a relatively shorter body and more generous width through the chest for a relaxed contemporary fit. We recommend comparing our garment measurements with a well-fitting shirt you already own before selecting your size.
