UES MFG.CO. - 17oz Type I Selvedge Denim Jacket [W901-Z]
Description
UES MFG.CO.’s W901-Z takes the classic Type I denim jacket and builds it from the same heavyweight 17oz selvedge denim used for the brand’s 400-Z jeans. The fabric has a noticeably slubby, irregular surface created by thick cotton yarns, giving the jacket plenty of texture even before the indigo begins to fade. At 17oz, it has considerably more weight and structure than a traditional midweight denim jacket, but the unsanforized construction allows the natural softness and bulk of the cotton yarn to remain intact.
UES uses unsanforized kibata denim, meaning the fabric has not undergone the industrial shrinkproofing process commonly used on modern denim. The jacket is then one washed before sale, taking out much of the initial shrinkage while allowing the fabric to twist and settle naturally. Slight twisting through the body and sleeves is intentional and part of the character UES wants from the denim rather than something engineered out during production.
The design follows the early Type I jacket formula with a single chest pocket, front pleats and a rear buckle back adjuster. Redline selvedge is used generously throughout the construction, appearing along the front facing, waistband and cuffs. Enamel shank buttons, copper rivets and a branded leather patch continue the vintage workwear influence without distracting from the denim itself.
The real appeal will come with wear. The combination of heavy yarn, irregular texture and indigo should gradually produce stronger contrast through the elbows, cuffs, pocket, seams and front pleats while the initially rigid 17oz fabric softens around the wearer. Paired with the matching 400-Z jeans or worn on its own, the W901-Z is a substantial interpretation of one of the earliest denim jacket silhouettes, designed to become considerably more personal over time.

Fabric & Care: Made from 100% cotton 17oz unsanforized selvedge denim with a heavily textured, slubby surface. The jacket has been one washed to remove much of the initial shrinkage and allow the fabric to settle naturally. Some twisting through the body and sleeves is intentional and characteristic of the unsanforized kibata denim. Expect the indigo to gradually lighten around the elbows, cuffs, pocket, seams, pleats and other high contact areas. Wash cold with similar dark colours and hang dry. Indigo transfer may occur, particularly while the jacket is new.
Fit: Built around the classic Type I silhouette with a relatively boxy body and adjustable buckle back. The fabric has already been one washed, so much of the initial shrinkage has occurred, although some additional movement is possible with heat. UES sizing generally runs smaller than typical North American sizing, so we recommend comparing our garment measurements with a denim jacket you already own before selecting your size.
