UES MFG.CO.’s 502653 Heavy Flannel Shirt is built from an exceptionally substantial 14.5oz cotton selvedge flannel woven on vintage power looms. The slower weaving process gives the fabric a dense, highly textured surface while retaining enough natural movement to remain comfortable rather than feeling overly rigid. It is the kind of flannel that can function equally well as a heavy shirt or a light outer layer through colder weather.

The exterior retains a rugged, pronounced texture from the heavy twill weave, while the reverse is brushed to create a softer and warmer surface against the body. UES balances the warp and weft density carefully so the fabric maintains its thickness without becoming unnecessarily stiff, giving the shirt the substantial hand expected from heavyweight Japanese flannel while still allowing it to break in naturally.

The Wine check uses yarn-dyed reactive colours chosen for strong colourfastness, so the pattern should remain rich while gradually developing more subtle tonal variation with repeated wear and washing. White lines running through the check create additional contrast against the deeper wine tones, giving the pattern more definition without making it overly busy. The colour works particularly well with indigo denim, faded jeans, olive fatigues and brown leather.

Traditional workwear detailing includes two acorn shaped chest pockets, palm nut buttons, thick cuffs and collar, side gussets and double chainstitched side seams. Selvedge detailing appears at the gussets and placket, while the slightly shorter, boxier proportions reinforce the vintage inspired character. Like much of UES’s clothing, the appeal comes from the fabric and construction becoming more comfortable and personal with repeated wear.

Fabric & Care: Made from 100% cotton 14.5oz selvedge flannel woven in a heavy twill construction on vintage power looms. The exterior retains a pronounced textured hand while the brushed interior provides additional softness and warmth. The yarn-dyed reactive colours offer excellent colourfastness while still allowing subtle tonal changes to develop with wear. The shirt has been one washed, so significant additional shrinkage should not be expected with proper care. Wash cold with similar colours and hang dry.

Fit: Cut with a vintage inspired silhouette that is slightly shorter and boxier than many modern shirts while still fitting relatively trim by North American standards.
