UES MFG.CO.’s 602661 No.7 Indigo Long-Sleeve T-Shirt takes the same rope dyeing technique associated with selvedge denim and applies it to an exceptionally substantial cotton jersey. The fabric is knitted from No. 7 single yarn, approximately twice the thickness of the yarn normally used for a T-shirt, giving the finished garment a dense, heavyweight hand that feels closer to a true layering piece than a conventional long sleeve tee.

Before the jersey is knitted, the cotton yarn is rope dyed in indigo. Like denim yarn, the dye remains concentrated around the outside while leaving the centre relatively white. As repeated washing and abrasion gradually remove indigo from the surface, more of that lighter core begins to show through, creating increasingly pronounced shades of blue. The result is a T-shirt that can develop much of the same character and tonal variation normally associated with well worn jeans.

The long sleeve construction gives the heavyweight fabric even more versatility through cooler weather. Unlike a traditional thermal, the jersey has a relatively smooth surface and straightforward crewneck shape, making it easy to wear on its own or underneath denim jackets, overshirts and heavier outerwear. The cuffs are finished without ribbing, using a simple tubular construction that keeps the silhouette clean and allows the indigo fabric itself to remain the focus.

Like much of UES’s indigo clothing, this piece is designed with ageing in mind. The shoulder seams, collar, elbows, sleeve edges and areas that repeatedly crease against the body should gradually lighten at different rates. What begins as a deep, relatively uniform indigo long sleeve should become considerably more individual with regular wear and washing.

Fabric & Care: Made from 100% cotton jersey knitted from exceptionally thick No. 7 single yarn that has been rope dyed in indigo. Because the dye does not fully penetrate the centre of the yarn, the lighter cotton core gradually becomes more visible as the surface indigo wears away. Indigo transfer is expected, particularly while the garment is new. UES recommends washing and rinsing the shirt in lukewarm water before initial wear to help reduce transfer. Wash separately from other clothing and hang dry.

Fit: UES generally cuts its T-shirts relatively close to the body, and the substantial No. 7 jersey gives this piece considerably more structure than a conventional long sleeve tee. The garment has already undergone a wash process, helping stabilize the dimensions before wear. UES sizing typically runs smaller than standard North American sizing, so we recommend comparing our garment measurements with a long sleeve T-shirt you already own before selecting your size.
