Description
COMING SOON*
The UES 400-WW WW2 Model Denim Pants take the brand’s signature 14.9oz selvedge denim and rebuild it around the simplified construction associated with wartime jeans. Rather than treating the period details as decoration, UES incorporates them into the fabric, stitching and interior construction, creating a five-pocket jean that feels appropriately restrained while still carrying the texture and aging potential the brand is known for.
The denim is UES’s original 14.9oz fabric, woven from Zimbabwe cotton with brown cotton blended into the yarn during spinning. That custom yarn is rope dyed with indigo, producing a deeper, more substantial shade than UES achieves with a conventional yarn. A relatively low-twist construction leaves more of the cotton’s natural character intact, giving the denim a soft hand despite its substantial weight.
The yarn is then woven slowly on vintage power looms, creating the slightly uneven surface and natural variation that become increasingly visible as the denim breaks in. UES specifically developed this fabric with long-term fading in mind. The irregular yarn and deep rope-dyed indigo allow high-contact areas to gradually lighten while lower areas retain more colour, producing greater contrast and texture through repeated wear.
The 400-WW draws directly from the material restrictions and simplified manufacturing associated with jeans produced during World War II. UES uses yellow stitching throughout the garment, while leftover selvedge sateen fabric is used for the pocket bags, reflecting the make-do approach found on wartime garments when manufacturers worked with whatever suitable materials were available.
UES also pays close attention to areas that experience repeated stress. Raised belt loops and reinforced pocket openings create additional material beneath the stitching, helping protect the seams against abrasion and tearing. Copper rivets, a button fly and a goat leather patch complete the traditional five-pocket construction without taking attention away from the denim itself.
The fit is a classic straight silhouette with a relatively high rise, comfortable room through the seat and thigh and a full leg through the hem. It is one of the more relaxed shapes in the UES denim lineup and suits the softer character of the Zimbabwe cotton particularly well.
Finished with a one-wash treatment, the majority of the initial shrinkage has already been removed. From there, the 400-WW is intended to be worn hard, washed and allowed to develop naturally, staying true to UES’s philosophy of making garments worth using until they are genuinely worn out.

Fabric & Care
100% cotton, 14.9oz Japanese selvedge denim made with Zimbabwe cotton.
UES blends brown cotton into the yarn during spinning before rope dyeing it with indigo. Combined with the low-twist yarn and slow weaving process, this produces a denim with a deep colour, soft hand and naturally irregular surface that will become increasingly pronounced through wear.
The jeans have received a one-wash treatment, so the majority of the initial shrinkage has already occurred. Some additional settling can still happen depending on water temperature and drying method.
Wash cold with a mild detergent and hang dry. Indigo transfer is expected when the denim is new.
Fit
Classic straight fit with a relatively high rise and relaxed proportions.
The 400-WW provides comfortable room through the seat and thigh before continuing into a full straight leg. Compared with slimmer UES models, it has a noticeably more traditional and accommodating silhouette.
UES tagged sizing does not necessarily correspond directly to the measured waist, so we strongly recommend using the garment measurements rather than choosing solely by your usual tagged jean size.
UES 400-WW WW2 Model Denim Pants, made in Japan from 14.9oz Zimbabwe cotton selvedge denim with a relaxed straight fit and wartime details.
Expected Shrinkage
One washed at the factory. Minimal further shrinkage with a cold wash and hang dry.
These figures are estimates. Fabric, fit, and care all affect how a garment settles, so treat them as a guide rather than a guarantee. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
