Indigofera - Ryman 8oz Neppy Denim Western Shirt

The Ryman is Indigofera’s classic Western shirt, built around traditional cowboy shirt details but finished with the fabrics and hardware more commonly associated with the brand’s denim. This version uses a lightweight 8oz Neppy Indigo denim, giving the familiar Western silhouette considerably more texture and ageing potential than a conventional cotton shirting.

The denim is woven in Japan from 100% cotton and has a noticeably irregular surface. Small neps and variations in the indigo yarn remain visible throughout the cloth, creating the slightly rough, uneven appearance that gives this version of the Ryman its character. Rather than looking completely uniform when new, the fabric already shows subtle variation across the surface.

At 8oz, the denim sits firmly in shirting territory. It has enough structure to feel like a true denim Western shirt without the weight or stiffness of the fabrics normally used for jeans and jackets. Indigofera gives the cloth a rinsed finish before construction is complete, taking away some of the initial rigidity and making the shirt comfortable to wear from the beginning.

The Western detailing stays traditional. Front and rear Western yokes shape the upper body, while two sawtooth chest pockets reinforce the cowboy shirt influence. Indigofera replaces the pearl snaps commonly found on vintage Western shirts with its own branded brass snap buttons, adding a warmer contrast against the indigo denim and hardware that should gain additional character with wear.

The combination of lightweight denim and a rinsed finish makes the Ryman particularly easy to work into a wardrobe. It can be worn buttoned as a shirt, left open over a tee or used as a light layer when the weather allows. As the denim is worn and washed, the indigo should continue to soften and develop variation around the seams, pockets, elbows and other high movement areas.

It is a straightforward Western shirt with the details left largely intact, but the Japanese neppy denim gives it the kind of fabric character Indigofera does particularly well. The result feels familiar from the start while still leaving plenty of room for the garment to become more individual with wear.

Fabric & Care: Made from lightweight 100% cotton Japanese neppy denim with a rinsed finish. The small neps and irregularities visible throughout the cloth are intentional characteristics of the fabric rather than imperfections. The initial rinse takes away some of the stiffness of the denim, but the indigo will continue to soften and change with repeated wear and washing. Wash cold when necessary and hang dry to minimize additional shrinkage and encourage natural fading.

Fit: The Ryman follows Indigofera’s classic Western shirt silhouette, with enough room to wear comfortably on its own or over a lightweight tee. The 8oz denim is considerably easier to layer than heavier denim shirting and will drape more naturally as it breaks in.
