SAMURAI JEANS
Samurai Jeans - 15oz Kanoko Brown Selvedge Jeans [S0150BRX]
Description
The Samurai Jeans S0150BRX takes the brand’s regular straight fit and pairs it with one of its more unusual fabrics, a 15oz brown selvedge denim inspired by historic military workwear. Instead of relying on indigo for its character, Samurai developed the Kanoko Brown denim around a warm Suren-dyed warp, creating a pair of jeans that will age in a much more tonal and understated way.
“Kanoko” translates to “fawn pattern,” a reference to the spotted coat of a young deer. Deer have long appeared in Japanese poetry and culture, where they have traditionally been regarded as sacred messengers. The name also suits the fabric itself. Woven from 100% Texas cotton slub yarn with intentionally introduced nep, the denim has an irregular, varied surface that gives the brown colour considerably more depth when viewed up close.
The inspiration for the fabric came from rare brown denim historically used in military clothing when shortages made indigo difficult to obtain. Logwood was used to create brown denim at the time, but for the S0150BRX Samurai chose Suren dye, a highly colourfast dye also associated with vintage military garments. Rather than producing the dramatic blue-to-white contrast of rope-dyed indigo, the brown gradually softens into lighter shades within the same colour family. Friction and regular wear will still create creases, abrasion marks and visible fades, but with a warmer and more subtle overall appearance.
At 15oz, the denim has enough weight and structure to feel unmistakably like Samurai without moving into the brand’s extreme heavyweight territory. The slubby Texas cotton yarn and natural nep give the fabric a rugged hand from the start, while a white weft provides contrast on the inside. A silver lamé selvedge ID finishes the fabric at the outseam.
The jeans are cut in Samurai’s Regular Straight fit, with a mid rise, roomy top block and a straight leg from the thigh through the hem. Details include an iron button fly with Samurai’s pine tree buttons, copper coin-shaped rivets, custom leather patch and the brand’s “Shogyo Mujo,” or Impermanence of All Things, jacquard pocket bags.
Finished with a one-wash treatment, the S0150BRX arrives with the major initial shrinkage already removed while retaining the texture and long-term aging potential of the Kanoko fabric. Wear them hard and the brown will gradually soften, crease and take on a character entirely different from a conventional pair of indigo jeans.

Fabric & Care
100% cotton, 15oz Japanese selvedge denim woven from Texas cotton slub yarn.
The Suren-dyed brown warp behaves differently from traditional indigo. Rather than producing high-contrast blue-to-white fades, the colour gradually softens into lighter brown tones while abrasion and creasing create more subtle areas of contrast.
The denim has received a one-wash treatment, so the majority of the initial shrinkage has already occurred. Some additional settling may still happen depending on water temperature and drying method.
Wash cold with similar dark colours and hang dry to minimize additional shrinkage and preserve the character of the fabric.
Fit
Samurai Regular Straight fit with a mid rise, roomy top block and straight leg.
This is one of Samurai’s more accommodating silhouettes, providing room through the seat and thigh without becoming excessively wide. The leg remains straight through the hem rather than tapering aggressively.
Samurai sizing can differ from typical North American denim sizing, so we recommend comparing the garment measurements against a pair of jeans you already own and like the fit of before choosing your size.
