Indigofera - Women's Roslyn 70's Selvedge Jeans Shiroyama Rinse

The Indigofera Roslyn takes inspiration from one of the most recognizable women’s denim silhouettes of the mid twentieth century, reworking the high waisted proportions of vintage 1940s and 1950s jeans in Indigofera’s substantial 14oz Japanese Vintage 70’s selvedge denim.

The fit was developed using an original pair of vintage Levi’s 701 women’s jeans from the 1950s as a reference. The Roslyn sits at the natural waist with a relatively narrow waistband before curving through the hips and seat, creating room where it is needed without leaving excessive space at the back of the waist. From there, the leg falls into a full straight to wide silhouette.

The 14oz Vintage 70’s Denim is woven in Japan from 100% cotton. Indigofera leaves the surface of the fabric unsinged, meaning the small cotton fibres that would normally be burned away during finishing remain visible. This gives the denim a slightly hairy, irregular surface and more of the texture associated with vintage denim from the late 1960s and 1970s.

This version has been rinsed before sale, taking some of the initial stiffness out of the denim and stabilizing the fabric before wear. It retains plenty of structure, but the initial shrinkage has already been addressed, making sizing considerably more straightforward than an entirely raw jean.

Construction stays traditional with a five pocket layout and zipper fly, allowing the distinctive fit and Japanese denim to remain the focus.

Designed by Indigofera and cut and sewn in Portugal, the Roslyn is a proper women’s heritage jean rather than a modified men’s fit. It combines vintage proportions with substantial Japanese selvedge denim in a silhouette designed specifically around the waist, hips and seat.
