UES MFG.CO.’s 60BW Big Waffle Shirt takes the traditional cotton thermal and builds it around a much larger, more pronounced waffle structure. UES uses thick cotton yarn on a low gauge knitting machine, producing deep raised and recessed sections across the fabric. Those pockets within the knit help trap warm air close to the body, giving the shirt excellent insulation while maintaining the natural breathability of cotton.

Despite the substantial appearance, the loose low gauge construction gives the fabric plenty of natural stretch. It moves easily with the body rather than feeling dense or restrictive, making the 60BW equally useful as a warm base layer underneath heavier clothing or as a standalone long sleeve through cooler weather. Flat seam construction keeps the joins smooth against the body, an especially useful detail given the thickness and texture of the fabric.

In Black, the oversized waffle pattern becomes particularly pronounced as light moves across the raised surface. The darker colour gives the shirt a cleaner, slightly less traditional thermal appearance, making it easy to wear with indigo denim, black jeans, fatigues or underneath heavier workwear. As the cotton softens through repeated wear and washing, the initially defined texture should settle naturally while retaining the deep waffle structure that gives the shirt its character.

Like many of UES’s simplest pieces, the appeal is in the fabric rather than unnecessary detailing. The box shaped body, overlocked hem and straightforward crewneck construction allow the Big Waffle knit to remain the focus. It is substantial, warm and highly functional, but comfortable enough to become an everyday cold weather layer rather than something reserved only for extreme temperatures.

Fabric & Care: Made from 100% cotton using thick yarn and a low gauge knitting machine to create UES’s distinctive oversized waffle structure. The raised and recessed knit traps warm air while maintaining enough stretch for comfortable movement. The garment has been one washed, helping reduce additional shrinkage. Wash cold with similar colours and hang dry. Avoid high heat to preserve the fit and structure of the cotton knit.

Fit: Cut relatively close through the body so the waffle fabric can function effectively as a thermal layer, while the knit itself provides a good amount of natural stretch. UES sizing generally runs smaller than typical North American sizing. We recommend comparing our garment measurements with a thermal or long sleeve shirt you already own before selecting your size.
